110 in the Shade is a musical, adapted by N. Richard Nash from his play The Rainmaker.
The protagonist is Lizzie, an older unmarried woman living in the American west on a ranch with her family. The plot centers on her search for love and her choice between two suitors: Starbuck, a charismatic con man posing as a rainmaker who can bring rainfall to the drought-stricken area, and another local man, Lizzie's choice in the end.
It opened October 24, 1963 at the Broadhurst Theatre on Broadway in New York City and ran for 331 performances. The production starred Robert Horton and Inga Swenson, and Lesley Ann Warren made her debut in a supporting role. Songs included "Love, Don't Turn Away," "Poker Polka," "Everything Beautiful Happens at Night," "You Ain't Fooling Me," "Old Maid," "Raunchy," "The Little Red Hat," and "Is It Really Me?". It opened in London's West End at the Palace Theatre on February 8, 1967.
The show is slated for revival during the 2006-2007 Broadway season. The Roundabout Theater Company production feature Audra McDonald in the lead and direction by Lonny Price. The production will open at Studio 54 in the spring of 2007.
This musical was nominated for 4 Tonys.
