Roman Empire
The Roman army consists of 400,000 men. Of these, there are ten legions (55,000 men) and 140 auxiliary units (80,000 men, of which half are cavalry) based in the Balkans and along the Danube; 50,000 legionaires and auxiliaries in Britain; 45,000 in Germany; 20,000 men in Egypt; and 10,000 in Africa and Numidia.
This is also the approximate date of completition of Ptolemy's monumental work Almagest. The geocentric cosmology contained in it held sway for 1400 years
