Under the Whyte notation for the classification of steam locomotives, a 2-2-2 locomotive has two leading wheels, two driving wheels and two trailing wheels. This type was named Jenny Lind, after Jenny Lind, a popular early 2-2-2 design, and sometimes Single, although that name more commonly means any kind of locomotive with a single pair of driving wheels.
The equivalent UIC classification is 1A1.
