The 2000s, also known as the turn of the Century/Millennium, brought with them an enormous slew of fads and trends with them. As the same with the latter part of the 20th Century the world of fads and trends was mainly focused on the western world. However through Globilization and the increasing usage of the Internet many Asian fads and Hispanic fads are beginning to show up all over the world. So the 2000s have been seen as a "melting pot" decade of pop culture. All of this leading to a unique decade for fashion, trends, and fads.
Common Names for this decade: The Noughties, The Noughts, The Zeroes, Double-O's, The Aughts, Aughties, The Bush Years, 2K's, Uh-ohs, Zoogs, Ozies, and Zip Years.

Continued from the Even though the 2000s have been unique in their trends, fashions, (such as bellbottoms, brightly colered shirts, 80s, 90s and 70s fashions) and fads, such as the rise of the hippy generation and emo sub-culture some from the 1990s have survived. Sometimes the 2000s are called The New Nineties because of this. The most popular are Pokemon and Harry Potter, which have been so successful that they have made movies and attracted many new fans. Spongebob Squarepants is another successful creation from the 90s that managed to gain momentum in the 2000s. Most notable though, is the return of the 70s and 80s fashions and styles.

The new millennium brought in new hopes of a better future and even more successful era than the 1990s. It was time to say goodbye to the 20th Century. By mid-2000 the first 2 major fads were seen as the famous Razor Scooters and Billy Bass. The company that made the famous Simon game from the 80s made another catchy hit known to many as the Bop It and Dragonball Z kept both kids and teens glued to Cartoon Network. 2000 was also the year that introduced many people to a new genre of Reality TV with the advent of competition shows such as Big Brother and Survivor. Also, people were waiting impatiently over the Florida cliffhanger during the 2000 U.S. Presidential Election.

2001 was the year that defined the 2000s decade pop culturally. The September 11, 2001 attacks took a toll on Pop Culture and completely flipped it around. The heyday of the 1990s abruptly ended, in the aftermath of the terror attack a recession began as well as a new War on Terror. The ever popular Bratz Dolls were released as well as Microsoft’s Xbox. Cartoon Network began Adult Swim, a segment of cartoons oriented towards adults. Wikipedia was founded in this year as well.

Two new sodas were introduced, Pepsi Blue and Vanilla Coke. Axe was introduced to the world and caught on big because of their advertising campaign. Geico first began playing their (annoying to some people) "I have good news" slogans. The Terror alert system was developed this year to alert the public if terror incidents are expected. The first of many large Powerball jackpots begin to occur in this year.

2003 was an excellent year of the decade. The recession that started in 2001 subsided causing more spending power. The infamous yo-yo like Bungee Ball was such a controversial fad that it went to the Supreme Court over the mysterious liquid inside it. 2003 also introduced Dance Dance Revolution, a popular active dance simulator originally released in 1998, but didn’t catch on till 2003. The controversal Da Vinci Code was published in this year. MySpace became the new place to "hang" for teens. McDonald's began airing the "I'm Lovin' It" ads and guys began to wear pink while girls began wearing ponchos.

And Emo fashions and Punk based fads like neckties and eyeliners became big.

Sudoku, a Japanese math puzzle was launched commercially and the long awaited Xbox 360 was revealed by Microsoft. It was also a year of unprecented disaster across the world with a terrible tsunami in Southeast Asia, the worst hurricane in US history, and a devastating earthquake in Pakistan, and with all of this, it may be remembered as the year of giving and generosity, as millions across the world donated billions of dollars and their time to help the victims.
