The 2000s in fashion is categorized mainly by punk-styled clothing, continuing from the 1990s.
Early 2000's
- Fashion begins to resemble 80's styles as 80's nostalgia begins.
- The whale tail style (incorporating Hip-hugger jeans, crop tops, and high riding thongs) is popularized by Britney Spears and Anna Kournikova.
- The "Baggy Jeans" of the 1990s s replaced by tighter fitting Low-rise jeans become more commonplace.
- Coinciding with the low-rise jeans trend, cleavage (the exposure of undergarments and the buttocks) becomes fashionable among young women.
- The center of the lower back becomes a common placement for tattoos among young women.
- Punk continued as a major trend throughout the decade with no signs of decline due to the popularity of Punk Rock.
- The Goth look, which is characterized by people wearing dark clothes, held over from the 90's until the end of 2005.
- Baggy jeans, which were popularized by rap music were very popular in the early 2000's and mid 2000's.
- Bell bottoms jeans continue their 1990s popularity among adolescent and college-age youth.
- 1960s-style thick-rimmed glasses (see e.g. Buddy Holly) are popular as a young retro look.
- Ringer T-shirts begin a resurgance of popularity, though not to the same degree as the original 1970s trend.

Mid 2000's
- The Bohemian trend (boho-chic) was popular from 2003-2005 with the acknowledgement of such celebrities as Sienna Miller and Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen.
- The emo trend helped popularize tighter jeans
- The emo look was around since the 80's and 90's but didn't fully gain mainstream popularity until late 2004-2005 and is still very popular so far in 2006.
- Ripped jeans regained popularity in 2005 and still is remaining popular as of 2006.
- Gangsta and Punk continued and they still are mainstream until the latter part of 2006 as the prep and artsy subcultures rise in popularity.
- African/Jamaican colors and the retro hipster look has become in style in 2005.
- For professional office wear, vertically striped shirts in bold colours become popular.
- "Gwen Stefani fashion", meaning a mix-up of fashion from past decades with new styles.
- More technologically-oriented clothing such as technological interfaces with iPods and the very prevalant wearing of bluetooth earpieces, and iPod-integrated jackets.
- Under-armour and other synthetic microfiber clothing becomes popular to wear outside of exercise.
- The "Wannabe Preppy" look comes back with an upturned collar and a pink tennis shirt.
- Livestrong wristband and other wristbands to 'support' other causes became popular. However, thousands of manufacturers began making the elastic wristbands, and thus the wristbands bought in stores rarely supported Lance Armstrong or any organizations.
- Aviator Sunglasses and oversized oval shaped sugnlasses become popular.
- "Ironic" printed tees in which has been a fad of the late 90s became the norm. These shirts often have humorous quotes or images, or a combination of both.
- Designer jeans, which usually cost significantly more than regular jeans were prevalent.
- Vintage looking new clothes and ripped and acid washed jeans become popular.
- "Preppy" polo shirts become popular as did graphic tees and boxers with naughty phrases for men.
- T-shirts with off-center logos become popular.
