2000s music groups

Encyclopedia : 2 : 20 : 200 : 2000s music groups

The 2000s have seen much change in musical taste. Most notably, Electronic dance music (house, techno, drum'n'bass) have begun to enter the mainstream.

The beginning of the decade heralded the peak and decline of Boy bands and Girl groups, notably those produced from reality TV shows. Electronic music became more popular over traditional acoustic music of the 90's. Meanwhile, hip-hop music has dominated the Billboard Hot 100 list for most of the decade so far.

Around 2002-2003, musical tastes started to change again. Grunge music became less popular, while emo, post-hardcore and other related genres became more mainstream, led by bands like My Chemical Romance, Taking Back Sunday and Fallout Boy. However, Hip Hop/Rap still remained dominant.

Towards the end of 2002, in the aftermath of the raw, American rock'n'roll of the late 90s, British electronic and rock bands began to burst onto the music scene. Among the leaders of this new Britrock pack were Franz Ferdinand, Kasabian, Razorlight and The Libertines. Some took their style and sound directly from the post-punk movement of the early eighties, while others were reminiscent of British pop bands of the 1960s, such as The Kinks.

These bands paved the way for other British bands like Kaiser Chiefs, Bloc Party and The Futureheads, who sound similar to bands like Blur, Suede and Pulp. Although their sound may have been modified to suit the new generation of music fans, the overall feel and excitement in their music is still evident.

In the late 2000s, emo and hip-hop music us started to decline and it will soon be replaced bt genres such as pop, rock, country and dance. Reggaton and similar styles will experience major backlash. Many new styles and genres along with cross genres will rise throughout most of the decade and it will probably rise further in the earlier part of the 2010s decade.

Among the groups who started their career or became famous during the 2000s (excluding artists who have continued their success from previous decades):
