The 2006-07 WHL season will be the 41st season for the Western Hockey League. A new expansion team, the Chilliwack Bruins will join the league, bringing the WHL to 21 teams that will play a 72 game season.
League notes
With the addition of the Bruins, the WHL has announced [realignment] plans for 2006-07:
- The Chilliwack Bruins will play in the B.C. Division of the Western Conference.
- The Kootenay Ice will return to the Central Division of the Eastern Conference.
- The Swift Current Broncos will move to the East Division of the Eastern Conference.
- Eleven teams will play in the Eastern Conference, ten in the Western Conference. No changes to the playoff format have been announced.
Memorial Cup
The Vancouver Giants will be hosting the 89th Memorial Cup tournament in 2007.
