21-87

21-87 was an abstract short film, directed by Arthur Lipsett and produced by the National Film Board of Canada.

The film is a collage of snippets from other films that Lipsett found on the floor of the National Film Board of Canada cutting room.

21-87 had a profound influence on director George Lucas who included elements from 21-87 in his Star Wars films and also American Graffiti. The film 21-87 is said to be the source of the "The Force" in Star Wars. Lucas never met the filmmaker but tributes to 21-87 appear throughout Star Wars. Silberman, Steve (May 2005).
