- Alexander of Sicyon frees his city from Spartan control, then unites it to the Achaean League.
- First Punic War: Battle of Panormus - Carthaginian forces under Hasdrubal are defeated by the Romans under L. Caecilius Metellus.
- Carthaginian Senate again tries to make peace by sending the captured Roman general Regulus to Rome. Regulus instead advises the Roman Senate to reject all Carthaginian proposals, then honors his parole by returning voluntarily to Carthage, where he is tortured to death.
