- In the Battle of Sentinum, the Romans under Fabius Rullianus and Publius Decius Mus (son of the hero of the Latin War) defeat the Samnites and their Etruscan and Gallic allies, causing the Etruscans, Gauls, and Umbrians to make peace. During battle, Decius, like his father, deliberately sacrificed his life to rally his men to victory.
