August - The usurper Basiliscus is deposed and Zeno is restored as Eastern Roman Emperor.

Western Roman Empire

September 4 - Romulus Augustus, the last Emperor of the Western Roman Empire, is deposed by Odoacer. This is the conventional date for the fall of the Roman Empire, and is widely considered the end of ancient history (and hence the beginning of the European Dark Ages).
