4Frontiers Corporation is a space commerce company founded in 2005 with the goal of the economically-viable settlement of the solar system. Its major focus is in developing systems to take advantage of the economic zones of Earth, the Moon, Mars, and the asteroid belt (hence the "four frontiers"), which 4Frontiers refers to collectively as the "Inner Solar System Economy".
Current Projects
4Frontiers is currently in the beginning stages of developing a life-size test analogue of what it believes a commercial Mars settlement will be like in form and function. Unlike previous test settlements, such as the Mars Society's Mars Analogue Research Station Programme, it will not be in a remote location. Instead, the plans are to locate it near a major city, thus giving people the opportunity to visit and see for themselves what it could be like. In addition to being a research facility, 4Frontiers plans to use this project as an attraction to fund its developments in settlement systems.
Future Projects
4Frontiers' ultimate goal is the private and commercial colonization of Mars, along the way becoming an economic force in the Inner Solar System Economy, sometime around 2025.
Assuming the accuracy of that date, 4Frontiers could be taken to be in direct competition with NASA to establish the first colony on Mars.
