Encyclopedia : 5 : 50 : 508 : 5080 Ogmore Castle
The 5080 Ogmore Castle is a Castle class locomotive, originally built as Ogmore Castle in May 1939 and renamed Defiant in January 1941.
Its first shed allocation was Old Oak Common, then Cardiff Canton in August 1950 and Carmarthen in March 1959. Its last shed allocation was Llanelly.
It was withdrawn in April 1963 and acquired by Woodhams in Barry, South Glamorgan [link] in October 1963. It was sold to the Standard Steam Gauge Trust (now renamed Birmingham Railway Museum), initially for spare parts for the 7029 Clun Castle, and left as the 62nd departure from Barry in August 1974. Its restoration was completed in June 1988.
