59 Independent Commando Squadron Royal Engineers is the commando trained unit of the British Army's Royal Engineers. Although part of the Royal Engineers and British Army, this unit is commando trained to provide engineer support to 3 Commando Brigade Royal Marines. Therefore the unit falls under the command of both the Royal Navy's 3 Commando Brigade and the British Army.
It is one of 3 attached Army units in 3 Commando Brigade Royal Marines.
Soldiers are drawn from the regular units of the British Army's Corps of Royal Engineers.
As part of the restructuring of the armed forces announced in 2004, 59 Commando Squadron will form part of the newly formed 24 Commando Engineer Regiment.
