"6 Underground" is a trip hop-influenced song by the British band Sneaker Pimps, from their 1996 album Becoming X. At first, the song had moderate radio airplay. However, after appearing on the soundtrack of the 1997 movie The Saint, radio stations began playing it much more frequently. The version most frequently heard on radio was the remix by Nellee Hooper (which appeared as a hidden track on the album). "6 Underground" became a crossover success, mainly on rock, alternative, and pop stations. The song peaked at No. 45 on the Billboard Hot 100. The harp melody heard at the beginning of the song is sampled from the track "Golden Girl" off the soundtrack for the James Bond movie Goldfinger.
The music video for the song gives off a dark atmosphere. Throughout the video, the camera focuses on Kelli Dayton singing in the middle of a dark room sitting on a stool. Occasionally, clips of the other band members are shown. The camera follows Kelli as she slowly walks around the darkened room singing the song.
Originally, the song was a club hit in the UK. After the commercial success and popularity of the album version of the song, the group released several remixes, some of which become hits in dance clubs and radio stations with a dance format.
The song appeared in the 2000 film The Watcher (film). It can be heard playing in the backround of a camera store when David Allen Griffin (Keanu Reeves) is seducing his next victim, an employee of the store. The song also appeared in the 1999 film Can't Hardly Wait, but not on the films soundtrack.
