7 Year Bitch was an all-female, grunge-influenced #redirect punk rock band in Seattle, Washington during the period 1990–1996. Although their fierce sound and the subject matter of their lyrics led some in the press to identify them as part of the riot grrl movement centered in nearby Olympia, Washington, they always rejected the connection. Their recording career included three full-length albums, Sick 'Em (1992), ¡Viva Zapata! (1994, named in honor of Mia Zapata), and Gato Negro (1996).
They were inspired (and initially mentored) by Mia Zapata of the Gits, another Seattle-based punk band; after Zapata was murdered in 1993, the members of Seven Year Bitch were instrumental in founding anti-violence and self-defense project Home Alive.
In 1990, vocalist Selene Vigil, guitarist Stefanie Sargent and drummer Valerie Agnew were playing in the Seattle group Barbie's Dream Car when their bassist left for Europe. They recruited Elizabeth Davis and played their first shows with the Gits. After a self-titled debut single in 1990, 7 Year Bitch signed with C/Z Records. The first album Sick 'Em appeared in 1992, but was overshadowed by Sargent's death (due to a drug overdose) just before it was released; Roisin Dunne became the guitarist's replacement the following year. In July 1993, Mia Zapata was brutally killed while walking home late at night; 7 Year Bitch recorded ¡Viva Zapata! as a tribute.
The group signed with Atlantic Records, and in 1996 released Gato Negro, their only major-label record; they broke up shortly after its release.
The band's name echoed the film Seven Year Itch.
