The company also produced floating point coprocessor and graphics accelerator chips for the mass-market personal computer market during the early 1990s. The floating coprocessors were produced for the 286, 386 and 486 generations of microprocessors. The company also started a 486 compatible microprocessor chip project, but this project never completed.
In 1997, the company stopped these other product lines to return to its roots in videoconferencing chips and changed its name to 8x8. The company had an initial public offering in the same year. In 2003, the company stopped all semiconductor products to transition to a VOIP service provider.
The company shares are traded on Nasdaq using the symbol EGHT.
