A.B.A
Encyclopedia : A : AB : ABA : A.B.A
A.B.A is an artificial lifeform, a character introduced within the Guilty Gear fighting game series. Introduced in Guilty Gear Isuka, A.B.A was recently added to the cast of Guilty Gear XX/. Due to the fact that A.B.A's story has yet to be explained in canon, she has no known relations or affiliations with any other characters, aside from Paracelsus.
Gameplay
A.B.A's gameplay focuses on the alternation of her two modes: Normal and Moroha. While in Normal mode, A.B.A's mobility is somewhat inhibited, as she lacks an actual run; instead, she performs short hops, much like Johnny. While in Moroha mode, which can be entered through one of three different methods, A.B.A gains a dash, as well as greatly enhanced damage and new moves. Moroha mode's drawback is that A.B.A's health is drained for each hit she connects, blocked or otherwise. When A.B.A comes out of Moroha mode depends on her "blood" gauge -- this slowly depletes over time (similar to how it worked in Isuka), but the gauge can be drastically reduced if A.B.A gets knocked down (roughly 1/3rd of the gauge). A.B.A can heal some of the damage drained from Moroha mode, either through connecting with "Union" (Ketsugou), or by using "Split" (Shousei), both of which place her back within Normal mode. The names of many of A.B.A's moves. such as "Erasure" and "Extermination", have deliberately violent implications.
Story
Background
Created atop a mountain home named "Frasco", A.B.A is an artificial lifeform, the creation of a scientist who lived within Frasco. However, before her 'birth', the aforementioned scientist was taken away by the military, which was planning to use his skills for unknown reasons. When her eyes opened for the first time, A.B.A found herself alone within Frasco, and lived the first 10 years of her life in total isolation.Escape from Frasco was not impossible. Nevertheless, A.B.A quickly realized that she had no knowledge of how to exist outside of her home. To find relief from her sadness, she began to collect keys of all kinds, as they represented the opening of a bold new world and an escape from imprisonment.
While roaming outside one day, still tired of her isolated life, A.B.A stumbled upon an ancient relic known as "Flament Nagel". It was love at first sight, as the war relic was shaped like a key, A.B.A decided to keep it as her partner; she renamed it "Paracelsus". Her new goal was to acquire an artificial body for her newfound partner.
Music References
Her name appears to be derived from that of the Swedish pop band ABBA. It could also be a reference to the ABA musical form. Her attack "Erasure" may be derived from the British synth pop band of the same name.Notes
- The name "A.B.A" could also be an indirect reference to blood types, especially due to A.B.A's focus on using blood throughout her gameplay.
- Because Guilty Gear XX: Slash does not feature a story mode A.B.A is still amongst the sidelines as a character which doesn't tie into the overall plot.
- A.B.A shows little enthusiasm when fighting, proclaiming "Ow..." and "Scary..." with no emotion.
