Allmänna Idrottsklubben, usually called AIK, is a Swedish sports association, established in 1891 in Stockholm. The football club was started in 1896 in Stockholm and is today located at Solna, north of Stockholm. The club's full name roughly translates into the Common Sports Club, referring to Allmän idrott, which, in the early 1900s, used to be the Swedish expression for athletics. The soccer club is currently playing in the highest Swedish league, the Allsvenskan. By tradition, the King Carl XVI Gustaf is a member of the club.
History
AIK was originally founded in Stockholm 1891 by Isidor Behrens but the club relocated to the suburb Solna in 1937 as the home stadium of the club was changed to Råsunda Fotbollsstadion, located in Solna. Football was put into practice 1896 and AIK enjoyed its first title four years later.
