An AV Idol (adult video idol) is a Japanese idol that works in the pornographic business, often both as an actress as well as a model. The average career of an AV idol spans one, maybe two years, in which many films are only released on VCD or VHS, though recent evolution of adult film industry in Japan has seen the rise of both DVD and AV idols with careers spanning several years, like Jun Kusanagi or Ami Ayukawa.
