A Season on the Brink

Encyclopedia : A : AS : ASE : A Season on the Brink

rightA Season on the Brink is a book by John Feinstein which detailed the 1985-86 season of Indiana University's men's basketball team, led by the controversial coach Bobby Knight. Extremely well received when first published, the book is often refered to as "the bestselling sports book of all time." Granted almost unprecedented access to the IU basketball program, as well as insights into Knight's private life, the book spawned a new genre, as a legion of imitators wrote works covering a single year of a sports franchise.

A film version of A Season on the Brink became the first ESPN television movie, premiering on March 10, 2002. The movie was filmed in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and is notable for its prevalent use of profanity, intended to accurately represent Knight's tirades. The premiere of the movie was simulcast on ESPN with the unexpurgated version and ESPN2 with all profanities bleeped. Future airings were of the uncensored version. The movie was also released on DVD in late 2002.
