Abtei (German) or Badia (Italian and Ladin) is a municipality in the autonomous province of South Tyrol (part of the autonomous region Trentino-South Tyrol) in northern Italy. It is one of the five Ladin communities of the Badia Valley.

There is no district in Badia with the same name; instead, the municipality consists of small, unorganized towns. The most important of these are St. Kassian (Ladin Ćiascian), Stern (La Ila), and St. Leonhard (San Linêrt).Business and Infrastructure
As in other Ladin communities in South Tyrol, tourism is the most important contributor to Badia's economy. Around 69% of the population work in the service sector, around 21% work in production, and around 10% work in agriculture, however most of these hold other jobs as well and farm on the side.Culture and Landmarks
Badia is part of the nature reserves of Puez-Geisler and Fanes-Senes-Prags. It is also near the mountains of Lagazuoi (2778 m), Conturines (3064 m), La Varela (3055 m), Kreuzkofel (2907 m), and Gardenaccia (2500 m).A pilgrimage church, the Church of the Holy Cross, is located near the birthplace of Saint Josef Freinademetz.
Transportation
Badia is accessible through the Gadertal from St. Lorenzen in the Pustertal, as well as through passes over the Dolomites such as the Valparola Pass and the Grödner Joch, which are only drivable during the snow-free months.People
