Achmed Abdullah's real name was Alexander Nicholayevitch Romanoff (1881 - 1945) and he was born in Russia. As a writer, he first saw his work being adapted into films from 1920 on. He was the author of the progressive Chinese drama “Chang” in 1927 and earned an Academy Award nomination for collaborating on the screenplay to the 1935 film "Lives of a Bengal Lancer".
