Acidophile

An acidophile is an inorganic particle or living organism (or part thereof) that tends toward acidic conditions or acids. Cf. "Acidophobe".

The adjective form of acidophile, acidophilic is a technical term used by histologists to describe a particular staining pattern of cells and tissues when using haematoxylin and eosin stains.

Acidophilic organisms are those that thrive under highly acidic conditions. These organisms include:

* Acidobacterium, a division of the Bacteria
* Acidithiobacillales, an order of Proteobacteria
