Adil Shah Afshar (? - 1748) was Shah of Persia from 1747 until 1748. Subsequent to Nadir's assassination in Gulnabad, Ali Khan, Nadir's nephew declared himself Adil Shah ("righteous king"), and shah of Persia. He slew Reza Gholi Mirza and Emam Gholi Mirza, children and heirs to the throne of Nadir, as well as all his other descendants, save Shahrokh who was only 14 at the time.

As a result of numerous revolts by tribal chiefs aspiring control of the country, by the order of Adil Shah Mohammad Hossein Khan, the head of Qajar tribe was murdured, and a certain 5 year old son of his, named Mohammad was castrated. He later became an enormous part of Iranian history as the founder of Qajar dynasty, Agha Mohammad Khan.

Invasion of Ahmad Khan Ebdali and Loss of Afghanistan

During Adil Shah's reign Nadir's Generals exploiting their military influence collected their forces and attempted to rise to power. The province of Afghanistan was rubbed away by Ahmad Khan Ebdali an Afghan General.

Death

Adil shah's reign came to an end in September 29 of 1748 having been in the power for less than a year. As a result of a coup d'etat by his own brother Ebrahim, he was deposed. Ebrahim blinded him, slew him, and succeeded as Shah.
