Encyclopedia : A : AG : AGE : Agent for H.A.R.M.

Agent for H.A.R.M. is a production that was released in 1966 in the U.S. It was directed by Gerd Oswald, and starred Peter Mark Richman as Adam Chance and Barbara Bouchet as Ava Vestok.

Plot synopsis

Agent for H.A.R.M. embodies an "American-ized" James Bond super-spy theme. The main character, Adam Chance, works for an American agency named H.A.R.M. He's assigned to protect Dr. Jan Steffanic, a recent Soviet defector who has developed a new weapon that shoots spores at people and turns them into essentially green goop.

Dr. Jan Steffanic has a niece, whose favorite apparel seems to be bikinis, named Ava Vestok. Ava eventually falls for the "charms" of Chance, but soon Steffanic is captured by European bad guys. Chance soon finds out that Ava is a double agent for the Communists, eventually being arrested, but not before Steffanic dies.

Other appearances

In 1997, Agent for H.A.R.M. was featured on movie-mocking television show Mystery Science Theater 3000, as experiment (episode) #815.

Miscellanea

Agent for H.A.R.M. was originally produced as a television pilot for a new spy series, but it was then given a theatrical release instead.

H.A.R.M. stands for Human Aetiological Relations Machine. Aetiology is a British variant of etiology which is the branch of medical science concerned with causes and origins of diseases. This full wording is seen at the top of the world map in the very last scene of the movie.
