Aguas Calientes, Peru
Encyclopedia : A : AG : AGU : Aguas Calientes, Peru
Aguas Calientes is a town on the Urubamba River in Peru. It is best known as the closest town to the enormously popular tourist attraction Machu Picchu, which is 8km distant. Many hotels and restaurants are found here, popular with tourists who visit the nearby ruins.
It is also known for its natural hot baths, which give the town its name ("hot waters" in Spanish).
This is an odd little town, in that the main street is actually a railway line rather than a road.
