AirBART
Encyclopedia : A : AI : AIR : AirBART
AirBART is a shuttle bus service that connects the Bay Area Rapid Transit's Coliseum/Oakland Airport station with Oakland International Airport (OAK). Buses stop at street level just outside the station and at the front of each terminal, and arrive roughly every fifteen minutes. A ride costs $2 and, depending on traffic, takes ten to fifteen minutes. [link]
Passengers can save some money by taking the AC Transit Line 50, which also serves the same destinations [link]. The cost for that route is $1.75, though as it is a local bus route the journey time may be longer. To speed up boarding, AirBART requires exact fares to be paid for boarding the bus, which can be fulfilled with either exact change, 1-dollar bills, or a $2 BART ticket.
BART currently plans to build a people mover connecting Coliseum/Oakland Airport station with the Oakland Airport terminals; revenue service is scheduled to begin by 2011. This connector will replace the current bus service; it is currently unclear whether the AirBART name will be retained for this service. [link]
