Encyclopedia : A : AI : AIR : Air Mobility Command

USA
Air Mobility Command (AMC) is a major command (MAJCOM) of the United States Air Force, and the air force component of United States Transportation Command.

AMC is based at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. It provides airlift, special missions, aerial refueling, and aeromedical evacuation for U.S. troops.

AMC also provides alert aerial refueling aircraft to United States Strategic Command, and is a provider of theater airlift, aerial refueling, and aeromedical evacuation forces to regional Unified Commands. AMC also operates VIP flights such as Air Force One.

AMC was formed in 1992 from the transport assets of the then-recently deactivated Military Airlift and Strategic Air Commands.

Recently, AMC received the mission of establishing bare air bases in contingencies. To accomplish this mission, AMC has established two Contingency Response Wings, and operates the Eagle Flag exercise.
