Akechi clan

Encyclopedia : A : AK : AKE : Akechi clan

The Akechi clan a japanese clan that was related to the Toki clan, mainly thriving around the later years of the Sengoku Period of the 16th century. The Akechi first served under the Toki until the latter ended up falling to the Saito during the year of 1540. Following this the Akechi then became a very powerful clan under the rulership of Oda Nobunaga, especially thanks to the very famous member of Akechi, Akechi Mitsuhide. Akechi Mitsuhide served as an intellectual advisor to Nobunaga. However, following the year of 1582, Mitsuhide trapped Nobunaga at Honnouji and forced him to commit suicide. Through this the Akechi then greatly rose in power due to the large collapse to the Oda clan. However, following the same year Akechi Mitsuhide was destined to be slain at the Battle of Yamazaki which was a mere 12 days after the incident at Honnouji. The Akechi clan relatively fell away from history at this point.
