Encyclopedia : A : AK : AKI : Akira Ishida

"Ishida Akira" redirects here. For , see Ishida Akira (Go).
Akira Ishida (石田 彰 Ishida Akira, born November 2, 1967) is a male seiyū born in Aichi.

As of 2005, he works for Mausu Promotion (the company name was changed from Ezaki Productions). Ishida is known in American anime fandoms for playing some very famous oddly effeminate male characters (including Fish Eye, Kaworu Nagisa, and Xellos) roles typically given to female seiyū.

Trivia

He has appeared in at least 3 roles with Hoshi Soichiro whereby both of their characters are close friends/comrades. The most famous of their many collaborations is in Gundam Seed and Gundam Seed Destiny, with Soichiro as Kira Yamato and Akira as Athrun Zala. A close second will be Saiyuki and its sequels, with Soichiro as Goku and Akira as Hakkai. In Naruto, Soichiro voiced Yashamaru and Akira does Gaara (Yashamaru's nephew). Also, in the anime "The law of Ueki", he voices Inumaru while Soichiro appeared as Sano Seiichirou. They also appeared together as Nanami Kai and Fujimori Sunao/Ran in the BL game Sukisho and its anime. Finally in the Meine Liebe series, the two of them again voice two friends/comrades in the forms of students Naoji (Akira) and Camus (Shouichiro). Also of note is that in most of these animes, he plays the older / more mature of the 2 characters. This is a reference to their ages (Akira is 5 years Soichiro's senior.)

Coincidentally, in both Meine Liebe and Saiyuki, they are both led by a character voiced by seiyū Toshihiko Seki. He voices the monk Genjou Sanzo in Saiyuki and the scholar Ludwig in Meine Liebe. Also, in Gundam Seed, Toshihiko voices Akira's "boss" and Soichiro's enemy (Toshihiko voices Rau Le Creuset while Akira does Athrun Zala and Soichiro voices Kira Yamato.). In Samurai Deeper Kyo, all 3 men voices characters as well.

This close friends/comrades relationship is also found with his works with Seki Tomokazu. In Gundam Seed, both men voiced elite pilots of ZAFT (with Tomokazu as Yzak Jule). In the anime version of Nana, both men voiced band members of Blast (Akira voices Shin while Tomokazu does Nobu). In Neon Genesis Evangelion, though their characters have no dialogue together, both are chosen as pilots of the Evangelions. Also coincidently, both men once voiced the same character (though in different settings): Hiwatari Satoshi in D.N.Angel. (Akira was Satoshi's voice in the anime version while Tomokazu voiced Satoshi in the drama CD. Also of note is that in the drama CD version, the voice actor of Niwa Daisuke (Satoshi's "rival") is Hoshi Soichiro.)

Additionally, Akira has appeared in 2 roles with Yuko Minaguchi whereby their characters are possibly interested in each other romantically. These are shown in Saiyuki (where Akira voices Cho Hakkai, and Yuko voices Yaone, a female demon that Hakkai took interest in), and Tales of Eternia (Akira takes the role of Rid Hershell, the male protagonist, while Yuko does the voice of Farah Oersted, the female protagonist; both seemed to be interested in each other).

At least 2 of the characters he voiced had links to the word "dawn".

Some of his characters have links with music as well. In Japan, apart from the time while Full Metal Alchemist was showing, he has appeared in every anime in the Saturday 6 p.m. timeslot on MBS and TBS, beginning from Gundam Seed. (GS, GSD and the still ongoing Blood+)

One of the most well-known characters whom he has voiced (Kaworu Nagisa) appeared in the anime (Evangelion) for only ONE episode.

He has portrayed 2 personalities from the Sengoku era of Japan.
