The Al-Sadd Sports Club (Arabic: ‎) is a sports club, best known for its football team of the Qatar National First Division from Doha, Qatar. The club goes with the Nickname "Al Zaeem" which translates to "The Boss" and was founded by students on the 21 October 1969 in Qatar's capital city. Al Sadd is undoubtedly the country's most successful team.

Stadium

The matches are played in the state-of-the-art Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium, whose capacity adds up to 18000 including VIP stands. Such a capacity reflects the demand expected from the Qatari population which has yet to reach 1 million.

Successes

The Qatari league: 1971, 1974, 1977, 1980, 1981, 1987, 1988, 1989, 2000, 2004, 2006 (11 times)

Emir of Qatar Cup: 1975, 1977, 1982, 1985, 1986, 1988, 1991, 1994, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2005 (12 times)

Heir Apparent Cup: 1978, 1979, 1980, 1982, 1986, 1987, 1989, 1991, 1997, 2000, 2002 (11 times)

Sheikh Jassem Cup: 1998, 2003 (2 times)

The club's greatest triumph was winning of the AFC Champions League: 1988. Al Sadd was the first Arabic team to win this competition.

Other international successes were in the Arabian Gulf Champions League: 1991

And in the Arab Champions League: 2001

Players

In difference to many league concurrents Al Sadd does not stake on the expensive engagement of foreign old stars, but on young talents from Arabia and South America.

Well-known players

Romario - World champion of 1994, played for Al Sadd ten weeks in 2003.
  • Ali Daei - Iran's record goal scorer started his professonal career in 1996 at Al Sadd and became their top scorer.
  • Abédi Pelé - Ghana's FIFA 100 player kicked in Doha, before he changed to Europe.
