Al Jean is a TV comedy writer most known for his work on The Simpsons. He was born in Farmington Hills, Michigan. His family owns a hardware store across the street from his high school. He attended Harvard University [link]. He has written for National Lampoon magazine, The Tonight Show, ALF and The PJs. In 1994, along with Mike Reiss, he created the prime time animated show The Critic. Al Jean is currently executive producer and show runner of The Simpsons. He was show runner for Seasons 3 and 4, along with Mike Reiss. Al majored in science at Harvard University. Al Jean has been featured extensively in Simpsons DVD commentaries and is known for having a nasal voice.
Jean is also the creator of the web series Jesus and His brothers on Icebox.com
Jean is currently executive producer on The Simpsons.
Jean is a vocal critic of Family Guy, most notably he discusses the show on The Simpsons Season 3 DVD commentary track.

- Al Jean attended Farmington Hills Harrison High School in Farmington Hills, MI. A few of the teachers are said to have been inspiration for Simpson characters. His family's hardware store, Jean's Hardware, is still in business and is located directly across the street.
- According to his commentary in the Season 4 DVD ("Homer the Heretic"), Al Jean was raised as a Christian (probably a Catholic) and was forced to go to church by his father as a child. He no longer attends church, and his current religious affiliation is unknown.
- Prior to attending Farmington Hills Harrison High School, Al Jean attended Roeper City & Country School, a school for gifted children in Bloomfield Hills, MI. A few of the students are said to have been inspiration for Simpson characters.
- It's been said that Al Jean's father bears a striking resemblance to Homer Simpson.
- He and writing partner Mike Reiss are frequently the butt of jokes by Jon Lovitz, who on more than one occasion has jokingly accused the duo of being gay. This appears several times on The Simpsons DVD commentaries. He also went as far as frequently ruining takes on The Critic, especially during musical numbers.
- Season 18 of The Simpsons will be Jean's sixth consecutive season as showrunner, longer than any previous showrunner has spent running the show. Including seasons 3 and 4, which he co-ran with Mike Reiss, Jean will have run eight seasons total - almost half the show's run.
