Albert Girard
Encyclopedia : A : AL : ALB : Albert Girard
Albert Girard (1595–1632) was a French-born mathematician. He studied at the University of Leiden. He is now known for his historical significance, in relation with the fundamental theorem of algebra and the Fibonacci numbers. He is also known as the man who used the Trigonometry abbreviations 'sin', 'cos' and 'tan' for the first time in a treatise he wrote. He didn't start out as a mathematician, either. He was a musician; a lute player, to be exact.
