Aleşd (Hungarian: Élesd) is a town in Bihor County, western Romania. It is located in the east of the county, near the border with Cluj county. It also lies on the national road running from Oradea to Cluj-Napoca and further west. Aleşd has a population of around 10,376 (2002 census), made up of Romanians (65.3%), Hungarians (18.9%), Roma (9.2%), Slovaks (6.2%), and others (0.4%). It includes the villages of Peştiş, Tinăud, and Pădurea-Neagră.
Accessibility
Aleşd is located on the main railway line between Oradea and Bucureşti (Bucharest). Consequently, it is served by frequent rapid and intercity (IC) trains from Cluj-Napoca, Bucharest, Arad and Timişoara. From the destinations below, there are the following number of trains to Aleşd daily:
