Alecto: Songbook is a graphic novel published by King Tractor Press (2006). Written by Gordon Reece, illustrated by Nando and greyed by Lara Baron. Alecto is one of the Furies from Greek mythology. Along with her sisters, Tisiphone and Megaera she kills the mortals that Zeus singles out for divine punishment. She is ruthless and implacable. With the advent of Christianity however, the Christian God sends his black angels to wipe out the Greek gods and in a surprise attack on Mount Olympus and Hades everyone is murdered except Alecto. Alecto spends the next two thousand years fleeing from the black angels who will not be satisfied until she is dead. She disguises herself as a mortal and keeps her winged claws strapped down in a tight corset that gives her constant pain.
This first graphic novel, subtitled 'Songbook', finds Alecto in modern day America with the black angels hot on her trail. She stumbles onto a plot by a group of young musicians to kill their vocalist and steal all the songs she has written. Her role as Zeus's most feared punisher means she has to intervene even though she knows reverting to her 'true' form (with hair made up of deadly serpents) will give away her exact location to the black angels led by the hideously sinister Hemlock.
