Alex (Street Fighter)
Encyclopedia : A : AL : ALE : Alex (Street Fighter)
Alex is the main character of the Street Fighter III series.
Appearance
Alex is loosely based on professional wrestler Hulk Hogan. His pre-fight intro has him ripping his shirt, which is a Hogan trademark.Story
As a Street Fighter III character, Alex has no official biography. All that is conclusively known about him is that he is an American from New York (although given his accent, many assume Alex is from Brooklyn).Alex entered the third World Warrior tournament because its sponsor, Gill, had seriously injured his best friend and father figure Tom, even though Tom had told him Gill had won fairly. Tom allowed him to go, letting him make his own decision. Alex won every match and then faced Gill. Although he defeated Gill, Alex did not have a chance to kill him, and he went home, to find Tom fully recovered.
Thoughts of revenge no longer clouding his mind, Alex encountered Ryu, who offered a match with him. When Ryu won, he encouraged Alex to hone his skills and seek out worthy opponents.
Trivia
- One feature that Alex is known for is that his Power Bomb special move has two variations. The regular version is a leaping powerbomb; but if the move is performed on an opponent whose back is turned to Alex, he will do a German suplex. This effect can be achieved by comboing into a Power Bomb from a strong or fierce Flash Chop. His Hyper Bomb Super Art also has a back-turned variation where he will do four German suplexes of increasing speed followed by a slow final one.
- Another move with a back-turned variation is his back+fierce Headbutt throw, which results in a sleeper hold if done to an opponent with his back to Alex.
- His pre-fight intro with Hugo is a stare down similar to what Hulk Hogan and André the Giant did at the main event of WrestleMania III.
- In another fighting game series, Rival Schools, Edge from Gedo High School also plays Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike at his local arcade and uses Alex. Edge earned the nickname "Gedo Alex", and of course, Edge also liked Alex's trademark phrase "You can't escape!"
- Alex's trainer and mentor, Tom, has a striking resemblance to French action star Jean Reno.
- Alex is Gill's final boss in 3rd Strike. In his ending, Gill turns Alex's skin with the same features as Gill, with half of his body red and half blue.
