Alexandria is an unincorporated census-designated place in Calhoun County, Alabama, United States. At the 2000 census the population was 3,692.

Alexandria is located at 33°45'57.859" North, 85°53'3.800" West (33.766072, -85.884389)[Geographic references#1GR1].

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the community has a total area of 28.7 km² (11.1 mi²), all land.

Demographics

As of the census[Geographic references#2GR2] of 2000, there were 3,692 people, 1,397 households, and 1,082 families residing in Alexandria. The population density was 128.4/km² (332.8/mi²). There were 1,467 housing units at an average density of 51.0/km² (132.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the community was 88.43% White, 9.75% Black or African American, 0.27% Native American, 0.60% Asian, 0.11% Pacific Islander, 0.24% from other races, and 0.60% from two or more races. 0.65% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 1,397 households out of which 39.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.5% were married couples living together, 9.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.5% were non-families. 19.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.64 and the average family size was 3.04.

The population is spread out with 27.4% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 31.7% from 25 to 44, 23.0% from 45 to 64, and 9.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 93.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.9 males.

The median income for a household in Alexandria is $40,761, and the median income for a family was $44,953. Males had a median income of $32,554 versus $22,754 for females. The per capita income for the community was $18,313. About 8.3% of families and 10.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 12.4% of those under age 18 and 4.3% of those age 65 or over.
