Alexei Fyodorovich Fyodorov (Ukrainian: Олексій Федоров, Russian: Алексей Фёдоров) (March 30, 1901 - September 9, 1989), one of the leaders of Soviet partisan movement during the Great Patriotic War and twice Hero of the Soviet Union.
Alexei Fyodorov was born near Dnipropetrovsk in a Ukrainian peasant family. In 1920 he joined the Red Army and fought in the Russian Civil War. In 1927 he joined Communist Party of the Soviet Union and by 1938 became a first secretary of the regional party organization in Chernihiv Oblast.
After the Nazi Germany invasion of the Soviet Union Fyodorov became a prominent organizer of the underground resistance in occupied Ukraine. During the winter of 1941-1942 he commanded Chernigov partisan unit which by March of 1942 had 16 engagements with the enemy and killed over a thousand of German troops. In May of 1942 Alexei Fyodorov was awarded a title Hero of the Soviet Union and the Order of Lenin with a golden star. During the spring and summer of 1943 Fyodorov's partisan units expanded its guerrilla activities into other occupied regions of USSR outside north-east Ukraine including Volyn, Belarus, Bryansk and Oryol regions. As a result of legendary Kovel railway hub operation during the fall of 1943 and the following winter partisans led by Fyodorov liquidated over 500 of German supply trains with ammunition, fuel, military equipment and army personnel.
Alexei Fyodorov was promoted to the rank of major general and in January of 1944 awarded Gold Star medal.
After the war Alexei Fyodorov headed several Communist party organizations in several Ukrainian regions including Zhytomyr and Kherson oblasts. In 1957 he became a Minister of Welfare in the government of Ukrainian SSR and during most of his post-war years was a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of USSR.
Alexei Fyodorov war awarded 6 Orders of Lenin, Order of Suvorov, Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky, Order of the Red Banner, Order of the Patriotic War, Order of the Red Star and Order of the October Revolution.
Alexei Fyodorov died on September 9, 1989 in Kiev, a monument was built to honour partisan hero of anti-Nazi struggle in his native Dnipropetrovsk.
