All's Lost by Lust is a Jacobean tragedy by William Rowley. It was written somewhere between 1618 and 1620, and first performed by Rowley's playing company, Prince Charles's Men. The first published edition (1633) states that Rowley performed in it, playing the role of Jaques, the play's clown.
The play is based on the Spanish legends about the Moorish invasion of Spain in the eighth century. It depicts a Spanish general, Julianus (based on the legendary Count Julian), whose daughter, Jacinta, is raped by Roderic, the King of Spain. In revenge, Julianus sides with the King of the Moors and Roderick is overthrown.
The play was popular in its own period and during the Restoration, when Samuel Pepys saw a production at the Red Bull playhouse. In the eighteenth century, Mary Pix adapted it as The Conquest of Spain. Since then, it has fallen out of favour and has not been revived.
