Allen Organ
Encyclopedia : A : AL : ALL : Allen Organ
Allen Organ Company, formed in 1939, located in Macungie, Pennsylvania, is the world's largest builder of organs. As a pioneer of digital music, Allen introduced the world's first digital musical instrument in 1971. Allen's commitment to technological advances has resulted in the installation of over 80,000 instruments world-wide. Allen builds classical digital and combination digital and pipe organs, as well as digital theatre organs.
Allen instruments include the Protégé™ Series, the Renaissance Quantum™ Series with four specifications in one console, and the Heritage™ Series, which can be customised by the purchaser using an online tool. All are built in the United States.
Allen is particularly noted for high quality digital organs. These are sometimes used to replace pipe organs when they require refurbishment (the cost of a new Allen is often comparable with an extensive rebuild on a pipe organ). Carlo Curley uses an Allen touring organ when playing in venues which lack an instrument of sufficient scale.
