Allenhurst is a Borough in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. As of the United States 2000 Census, the borough population was 718.

Allenhurst is an affluent community located on the Jersey Shore within close proximity to New York City. Many of the large homes that line its streets are meticulously maintained to preserve their unique character. Transaction prices in the community have increased dramatically since 2000, as more families have discovered the quiet seashore town. Allenhurst features many large Victorian and Tudor-style homes. Allenhurst offers beaches on the Atlantic Ocean and a variety of dining can be found within Allenhurst and the neighboring towns.

Geography

Allenhurst is located at [40°14′15″N, 74°0′17″W] (40.237483, -74.004615)[Geographic references#1GR1].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.7 km² (0.3 mi²). 0.7 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it (7.14%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census[Geographic references#2GR2] of 2000, there were 718 people, 285 households, and 188 families residing in the borough. The population density was 1,066.2/km² (2,750.6/mi²). There were 370 housing units at an average density of 549.5/km² (1,417.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough was 97.35% White, 0.84% African American, 0.28% Native American, 0.42% Asian, 0.14% from other races, and 0.97% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.51% of the population.

There were 285 households out of which 23.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.8% were married couples living together, 6.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.7% were non-families. 24.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.52 and the average family size was 3.08.

In the borough the population was spread out with 28.9% under the age of 18, 5.7% from 18 to 24, 28.8% from 25 to 44, 27.9% from 45 to 64, and 18.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 106.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.0 males.

The median income for a household in the borough was $85,000, and the median income for a family was $109,180. Males had a median income of $70,625 versus $32,171 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $42,710. About 1.0% of families and 3.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 1.6% of those under age 18 and 2.1% of those age 65 or over.

Federal, state and county representation

Allenhurst is in the Sixth Congressional District and is part of New Jersey's 11th Legislative District.

New Jersey's Sixth Congressional District, covering portions of Middlesex County and Monmouth County, is represented by Frank Pallone (D). New Jersey is represented in the Senate by Frank Lautenberg (D, Cliffside Park) and Robert Menendez (D, Union City).

The 11th legislative district of the New Jersey Legislature is represented in the State Senate by Joseph A. Palaia (R, Deal) and in the Assembly by Steve Corodemus (R, Atlantic Highlands) and Sean T. Kean (R, Wall Township). The Governor of New Jersey is Jon Corzine (D, Hoboken).

Monmouth County is governed by a five-member Board of Chosen Freeholders. Monmouth County's Freeholders are Freeholder Director William C. Barham, Freeholder Deputy Director Robert D. Clifton, Lillian G. Burry, Anna C. Little and Theodore J. Narozanick.

Education

Allenhurst is a non-operating district and does not have any public schools of its own. Students from the Borough of Allenhurst attend the Asbury Park Public Schools in Asbury Park as part of a sending / receiving relationship.
