Encyclopedia : A : AL : ALO : Alogian
The Alogians, or Alogii, were a sect of ancient heretics who denied that Jesus was God.
Theodore of Byzantium, by trade a currier, having apostatized, under the persecution of the Emperor Septimius Severus, to defend himself against those who reproached him therewith, said that it was not God he denied, but only man. Thus, his followers were called in Greek αλογοι in regard they rejected the Logos (translated Word in the Book of John), or Jesus Christ. The Alogians made their appearance towards the close of the 2nd century.
