Alpental (King, County, WA, USA) is a ski area operated by Booth Creek Resorts owned by George Gillett. German for "Alpine Valley, it is a small part of The Summit at Snoqualmie Ski Area located in Snoqualmie Pass, Washington. The terrain is considered the most difficult of the Summit at Snoqualmie Ski Area, with 75% rated Advanced, 22% rated Intermediate and 3% rated Beginner. Alpental has four chairlifts that provide access to 2,280 feet (695 m) of vertical descent and 302 acres (1.2 km²) of skiable area. The area has an additional 500 acres (2 km²) in its backcountry area. The backcountry can only be accessed by those who obtain passes from the Alpental ski patrol. The base of Alpental is 3,140 ft (957 m) with a top elevation of 5,420 ft (1652 m). Alpental's average snowfall is 444 inches (1127 cm). Night skiing is also available.
Except for the lower parking lot and lodge area, Alpental is located on public land. http://www.freealpental.org/upper_parking_lots.htm Lands and waters there are open to the public. There is a corporate tax instituted to campers accessing this land in lot 3. They are not given recipits for this tariff by the private security force which collects the tax.
The privately owned portion of the area was originally part of mining claims filed by Seattle pioneers Denny and Guye[link] [link] [link].
http://www.freealpental.org represents local opposition to corporate expansion into the backcountry (public land) at Alpental, as well as advocating for public access, and environmental stewardship of this area.
Alpental is also the name of a small sub-division of resort homes on the Alpental Access Road
