Encyclopedia : A : AL : ALP : Alpine World Skiing Championships

The Alpine World Skiing Championships are organised by the International Ski Federation (FIS). The first world championships in alpine skiing were held in 1931. Until 1939, the event was annual. From 1948 to 1982, the competition was held every two years. Until the 1980 Winter Olympics, the Olympic Champions were also the World Champions (except for the combined event).
