Altai Krai (Russian: ) is a federal subject of Russia (a krai) in the Siberian Federal District. It borders with, clockwise from the south, Kazakhstan, Novosibirsk and Kemerovo Oblasts and the Altai Republic. The krai's administrative center is the city of Barnaul. Altai Krai

The region's main waterway is the Ob River. The region has an area of 169,100 km² and a population of around 2.6 million (census 2002). With over 600,000 inhabitants, Barnaul is the largest city of the territory.

The region's governor Mikhail Yevdokimov was killed in a car crash on August 7, 2005.

The region's economy depends on agriculture and granted by the Russian government.

As of 2002 All-Russian Population Census, Russians make the majority with 92%. Germans are the second - about 3%. The area is also populated by 2% Ukrainians, 0.4% Kazakhs, 0.35% Tatars, 0.32% Belarussians, 0.31% Armenians and by people of some other nationalities. There are 60 districts and 12 cities.
