Alyssa Ashcroft is a video game character appearing in the Resident Evil series. Alyssa is one of the main characters in Resident Evil Outbreak and Resident Evil Outbreak File #2.
Background
"Alyssa, who writes for the local paper, has an insatiable appetite for collecting every bit of information she can dig up. With her strong personality, she is a sore loser who often clashes with others. Although she's a bit stuck on herself, she'll take care of others in a pinch."Alyssa is a crusading reporter with a talent for firearms and an attitude problem. She's very good at her job; at one point, Ben Bertolucci compliments her on beating him to a story. Alyssa often comes across as abrasive, bossy, and hypercompetitive.
Her SP Items suggest that Alyssa is a technophile who's fond of working out, but who may be effectively married to her job, with few interests that do not relate directly back to it.
Items
Personal Item
Lockpicks: Certain doors and lockers throughtout the game are locked, but there is no key. Alyssa can open these doors and compartments with her set of lock picks. Stand in front of the door you wish to unlock, open the Status Menu, select one of Alyssa's picking tools and use it. While the pick is in the lock, press Action rapidly to open the lock. Press Cancel to stop the process. Each tool is shaped differently. If the first tool you choose is not opening the door as quickly as you'd like, attempt to use a different pick.Extra Item
Stun Gun: A close-quaters, self-defense weapon that sends an electrical charge into an enemy. While the Stun Gun does not cause large amounts of damage, there is a high probability that the shock may render an enemy incapacitated, knocking the foe to the ground for a short period of time. Recharge the Stun Gun by combining it with a Battery.Special Actions
Back Step
As an enemy lunges for Alyssa, she can step out of the attacker's range. This retreating move enables Alyssa to step back into the perfect range at which to counterattack with a tackle or a melee weapon.Critical Shot/Potshots
While equipped with a Handgun, aim for a long moment. Soon, Alyssa will readjust her aim. Her aim becomes much better and the shot will strike the enemy for critical damage if the weapon is fired after she changes her posture. This ability makes Alyssa more adaptable to combat than the other female characters.\"Flashback\" Scenario
Alyssa and her companions are led into the Abandoned Hospital in the Arklay Mountains. After uncovering evidence of Al Lester's corruption, and experiencing flashbacks of repressed memories, Alyssa is abe to piece together what happened to her collegue, Kurt, who had been killed for his investigations.Costumes

Fate
There are several endings in both Outbreak games. Since most Resident Evil games count the good endings, it is safe to assume that it is the same case here and that Alyssa survived.Escaping With Daylight
The best ending in File #1, Alyssa is cured of the T-Virus, escaping Raccoon City with Daylight shortly before the government's bombing run.Escaping Without Daylight
Though she is cured of the T-Virus, Alyssa is unable to recover a sample of the vaccine before the city is destroyed.Escaping Uncured
Alyssa boards the Helicopter without using the vaccine, though she has a sample of it. Shortly before the city is annihilated, she succumbs to the effects of the virus, and the helicopter crashes in the mountains. No Escape
The serum was never found, and Alyssa and Yoko remain in the University. With help from Yoko, Alyssa uploads evidence of Umbrella's activities to the internet. Satisfied in the knowledge that Umbrella will not get away with what they've done, Alyssa smashes her laptop, and the pair calmly waits for the missiles.Run Like the Linda/Up and Away With Linda
Alyssa watches Raccoon City burn, and muses that life isn't worth living without risk. She decides to focus on attaining physical strength. Some time later, during Alyssa's workout, she watches a news broadcast and reads a newspaper with her picture on the front page; due to her survival and ensuing reportage, Umbrella is in serious trouble.Run Like the Wind/Up and Away
Alyssa manages to get out of the city, but Linda dies in the explosion that destroys Raccoon. Some time later, in another darkened city, we see the front page of a newspaper: "Worldwide Bloodshed." Something was unleashed in Raccoon City that may now be impossible to stop.Trivia
- Alyssa's look is apparently based upon the actresses Charlize Theron and Nicole Kidman.
- If Alyssa is not a PC or AIPC during the "Flashback" scenario, she will walk after Al at the start of the game and disappear. On Easy or Normal difficulties, she will pause to rest at a dead end in the forest, freely giving her stun gun and a first-aid spray to anyone who happens by. On Hard or Very Hard difficulties, Alyssa can be found dead near the exit of the maze, and will subsequently reanimate as an unkillable zombie.
- Alyssa was apparently in the middle of investigating an unknown story involving the Raccoon Zoo at the time of the outbreak.
- Several of Alyssa's ad-libs are unapologetically sexually oriented. For example, when moving through a crawlspace, Alyssa may say, "I've spent a lot of time on all fours."
- The "Flashback" scenario in File #2 suggests that Alyssa may have been operated on by Umbrella to suppress her memories of the events at the hospital, including the death of her colleague Kurt. An alternative theory is that Alyssa was not actually present for Kurt's investigation of the hospital or his death, and is simply realizing what must have happened as she explores the building.
- During the "Wild Things" scenario, only Alyssa can find the Memo to Alyssa file in the outer office. Fans have yet to discover its meaning.
- Alyssa's lockpicks are necessary to open a cabinet across the hall from the night duty room in "Desperate Times." As such, she's the only character who can read the file inside the cabinet. Thus, to get the maximum possible points for the scenario, a player must be using Alyssa.
- Fan rumor has it that Alyssa's potshot ability was originally intended to have a different effect; when she took a potshot, her bullets would penetrate more than one target, much like the Magnum in or the Punisher in Resident Evil 4. However, this ability could not be gotten to work correctly in time for the game's release.
- Alyssa shares a name with the Ashcroft Penitentiary from the series of video games.
