Amber Valley is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom.

Boundaries

Amber Valley constituency covers the Derbyshire market towns of Alfreton, Ripley and Heanor, all of which are favourably disposed to the Labour party. However the constituency also has a considerable rural / suburban element, stretching from the edge of the Peak District to the northern edge of Derby, which is more favourably disposed to the Conservatives. It can therefore be considered a marginal seat.

Boundary review

Following its review of parliamentary representation in Derbyshire, the Boundary Commission for England has created a seat of Mid Derbyshire. This creation has consequences for neighbouring seats, including Amber Valley from which some wards have been taken in the creation of the new seat.

The modified Amber Valley constituency to be fought at the next UK general election in 2009 or 2010 is created from the following electoral wards:

The town of Belper has been moved into the new Mid Derbyshire constituency.
