American Champion is a United States aircraft manufacturer. Founded in 1988, since 1990 it has produced the Citabria, Decathlon and Scout aircraft, whose designs it obtained from Bellanca, which in turn acquired them from the defunct Champion Aircraft company.

The Scout model is typicaly fitted with a 180 hp Lycoming O-360 engine. It is availble with a fixed pitch propeller or a constant speed propeller. It is an excellent short field aircraft. The early Scout model was plagued by a wing spar defect. Cracks would develop in the wooden spar that was the main structural component of the wing. The spar would develop cracks at the strut attachment point. An airworthiness directive called for repetitive inspections of that area. The preferred repair is to replace the wings. The new wings that are now available have metal spars which are not subject to the repetitive inspections, or cracking. All new Scout (8GCBC) aircraft have a metal spar.
