Andranik Toros Ozanian, or Zoravar Andranik, (Armenian: or Զորավար Անդրանիկ) (2 25 1865 † 8 31 1927) was an Armenian general and freedom fighter who was a national hero with big admiration.
Early Age
He was born in Şebinkarahisar, where its is in Giresun Province, though very close to Erzurum. After losing his wife and son at an early age, he joined the Armenian freedom movement in the Ottoman empire, and participated in various parties, including Armenian Revolutionary Federation.Balkan Wars
Adranik participated in the Balkan Wars of 1912-1913, within the Bulgarian army, alongside of general Garegin Njdeh as a commander of Armenian auxiliary troops of 1912-1913. After his arrest and jailed; he spent he some time in Istanbul, where he took up contact again to Armenian nationalists.World War I
During the First World War, he participated to the Caucasus Campaign and appointed to general of the Armenian volunteer units of the Russian army. He was involwed in twenty battles among other things with Dilman, Zevan, and Bitlis . The battles turned out by his courage (he always led his attacks) and his tactical being able to large fame.He was in the Russian army that took the city Van at May 6, 1915, and second time at after the Battle of Van. With his military supremacy, he made possible for the Armenian population the escape from the Ottoman Army to the Esteran Armenia controlled by Russia.
Azerbaijan Democratic Republic
After decleration of Democratic Republic of Armenia, he organized volunteer units against the Ottoman army, and fight. Decleration of Treaty of Batum was in diffuse as Antranig, was fighting against the Ottoman Empire with his army. He refused to accept the boarders stated by the treaty. His activities were concentrated at the link between Ottoman Empire to Azerbaijan Democratic Republic at Karabakh-Zanghezur. Ozanian struck back at the Ottoman Fronts, Army of Islam.Aftermath of World War I
1919 it left to take part neither will in the political struggles for power in the recent Republic of still those its opinions contradicting policy to carry Armenia for the last time and went oneself into the exile to Fresno (the USA).As the First Republic of Armenia fell, he immigrated to Fresno, California, and died in 1927. His remains were moved to Paris in 1928, and returned to Armenia in 1999. Monuments in Armenia and France remind today at the victorious national heroes of Armenia.
